Per the comments in rc.conf, I have commented out the CONSOLEFONT setting to my
preference because I use vga=extended.

* Failed to set user font                                                [ !! ]

It doesn't seem to cause any other issues.

It is so by design.  It should maybe just display a error message as well.

Fixed on CVS.
