eb8b2065d97105e52e6fa8af3cd82170 livecd-i686-installer-2006.1.iso Title pretty much says it all. Running fdisk -l as gentoo user yeilds nothing. Running is as root shows my partitions.
The installer doesn't use fdisk to dump the partitions. The installer dumps its internal representation of the partition table to the controlling console. Unfortunately, when it's run from the desktop icon, there is no controlling console visible. It's not so much a bug as a lack of a feature.
I get the same problem when running it from terminal.
When you say that the installer does not display partitions, what exactly do you mean? Does it show the drive as blank when you have existing partitions? Does it give some sort of error?
It does not show the drives or anything; not errors.
Ah, ok. That's due to a change in the /sys structure in the 2.6.16 and newer kernels. The installer CVS has been updated for it, but the current testing LiveCD still has the older version.
This should be fixed in 2006.1
