If you check the validity of www.gentoo.org
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://www.gentoo.org/

You will notice that you mixed up the meaning of align and valign. It must be
valign="middle"
and
align="center"
you made it just the wrong way. Please fix this to make the webpage valid html.

unfortunately it will take quite a bit more than that to make our pages valid.
rest assured, however, this ia a pet peeve of mine as well... and am working on
a way to fix it
