howdy, i know the freeze is on and all. but here is a new ebuild to mark as resolved/later :) "GNU Typist (also called gtypist) is a universal typing tutor. You can learn correct typing and improve your skills by practicing its exercises on a regular basis." It depends only on sys-libs/ncurses and virtual/glibc. It will optionally create emacs/xemacs modes if either emacs or xemacs can be found during configure. The .el and .elc files install into the correct location etc. gettext for nls support is built in. if the user has nls in use, then it will be built, else no nls support will be built.
