I wrote a mail regarding this to -core, but there was no response. Trying again here! :) Another USE flag proposal. This flag (tcb) is supposed to control whether the alternative tcb password shadowing scheme is to be used. It's a fancy new scheme written by the Owl GNU/*/Linux guys (Nergal and Solar Designer, mainly), that allows passwd and friends to be setgid shadow instead of suid root. The only packages that are going to be affected by this is sys-libs/glibc, sys-libs/tcb (not commited yet) and sys-apps/shadow. Those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head, anyway. This will also control if blowfish encryption should be default in glibc's crypt(3). If it's accepted, there is no rush. It'll need some thorough testing on my behalf, and all the implementation details are not clear yet. It's post 1.4 material anyway.
