Description Joachim Blaabjerg (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-08 12:44:03 UTC
I wrote a mail regarding this to -core, but there was no response. Trying again here!
:)

Another USE flag proposal. This flag (tcb) is supposed to control whether the
alternative tcb password shadowing scheme is to be used. It's a fancy new
scheme written by the Owl GNU/*/Linux guys (Nergal and Solar Designer,
mainly), that allows passwd and friends to be setgid shadow instead of suid
root. The only packages that are going to be affected by this is
sys-libs/glibc, sys-libs/tcb (not commited yet) and sys-apps/shadow. Those
are the ones I can remember off the top of my head, anyway. This will also
control if blowfish encryption should be default in glibc's crypt(3).

If it's accepted, there is no rush. It'll need some thorough testing on my
behalf, and all the implementation details are not clear yet. It's post 1.4
material anyway.
