Seems google just released Picasa for Linux, can someone make up an ebuild for it?
Seems to me that the link is invalid, also there isn't any other link to a Linux version.
(In reply to comment #1) > Seems to me that the link is invalid, also there isn't any other link to a > Linux version. > Strange...it seems to work for me I will try uploading it later. heres the direct link to the download: http://dl.google.com/linux/standalone/picasa-2.2.2820-5.i386.bin All you have to do is download and run the binary, pretty cool program. Even though its GTK it still looks pretty good on KDE (except the menubar)
Meh, good luck w/ producing an ebuild for the GUI installer. ;) BTW, if someone wonders why is it so huge, it bundles completele wine, freetype and Gecko engine...

Ops sorry for the duplicate... as i say in the other bug: Note: Seems like the homepage only works from usa http://picasa.google.com/linux direct download link: http://dl.google.com/linux/standalone/picasa-2.2.2820-5.i386.bin
(In reply to comment #5) > Note: Seems like the homepage only works from usa > http://picasa.google.com/linux Yeah, feel free to find yourself an open US proxy if you want to see the homepage... Makes me really tempted to close this bug as LATER, Google apparently doesn't want people to use this stuff. If someone really wants to write an ebuild, might be easier using RPM version instead of the self-extracting installer: http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/i386/picasa-2.2.2820-5.i386.rpm
Created attachment 87567 [details] picasa ebuild
Created attachment 87568 [details] script to lauch picasa, used by the ebuild
This sould be in the category media-gfx/picasa like f-spot?
Please note that this ebuild is really very experimental I have copy all the files minus the installer to /opt/picasa and then I launch it with a script. It uses the bin installer. The ebuild depends must be fixed, the name also has to be fixed (version-5 problem), but at least it works. It could be a good start point,

Created attachment 87620 [details] Working Picasa EBuild with Patches I know that is not correct made but it may be useful.
The latest ebuild (with patches) works for me. No errors being output and picasa runs just fine. I'd say this is ready for portage as ~arch.

Yes the latest ebuild is working pretty fine for me to.

this doesn't depend of wine ?
(In reply to comment #17) > this doesn't depend of wine ? > It does but it is a special WINE with a bunch of patches and it is included in the binary.
When this hits the tree it should also be keyworded ~amd64 - works here.

I like it :) Picasa is nice. Where did you get your patch from? I managed to straighten up the ebuild a bit, though of course work is still needed http://genstef.homelinux.org/local/media-gfx/picasa/picasa-2.2.2820-r5.ebuild But first I need to know ehre that patch is from.
thanks to all who contributed, I added the ebuild to portage, have fun :)
This seems to work on my ~amd64 system - should probably be added to the KEYWORDS... -James
open a separate bug about ~amd64. I do not have an amd64 system. This bug is closed, no more talkie, pls.
