Every time I log in to my KDE desktop, I see one CPU load go to 95% and stay there until an error announcement appears:

Error - artsmessage
Sound server fatal error:
cpu overload, aborting.

The sound hardware is in the VIA chipset of this MSI K8T Master2 FAR
motherboard and uses the via82xx module.

The problem only started when I made a fresh intsallation of KDE 3.5.2 on this box; previous versions worked fine. I reinstalled because of the libexpat bug, which I could not cure with revdep-rebuild.
