Description Tro 2006-04-30 14:29:43 UTC
Ever since I upgraded to 2.6.16 kernel, I've been getting /var/log/messages flooded with messages like these:

evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 0, Code: 0, Value: 0
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 4, Code: 4, Value: 34
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 1, Code: 34, Value: 1

evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 1, Code: 34, Value: 0
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 0, Code: 0, Value: 0
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 4, Code: 4, Value: 28
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 1, Code: 28, Value: 1
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 0, Code: 0, Value: 0
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 4, Code: 4, Value: 28
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 1, Code: 28, Value: 0
evbug.c: Event. Dev: isa0060/serio0/input0, Type: 0, Code: 0, Value: 0

About two lines per keystroke are printed causing a flood in /var/log/messages. Additionally, these are all visible in dmesg, so any user of the system can see what any other user types.

I have "Event debugging" compiled as a module, but I don't load it explicitly in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 . It seems that either hotplug or udev or something loads it for me on boot.

As a temporary solution I renamed evbug.ko in /lib/modules/2.6.16-gentoo-r3/kernel/drivers/input/ to evbug.ko-NOLOAD to prevent auto-loading. I'd still like to be able to load this module once in a while for debugging, so I don't want to completely take it out of the kernel config.

Basically, autoloading this module really shouldn't be a default because it floods /var/log/messages and also might be a security problem on multiuser systems if event debugging is compiled as a module.
