Playing around with unionfs and compiling/testing current kernel with certain configs I got this comile error : ... LD sound/mips/built-in.o CC sound/oss/msnd.o make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/etc/sound/msndperm.bin', needed by `sound/oss/msndperm.c'. Stop. make[1]: *** [sound/oss] Error 2 make: *** [sound] Error 2 I'll attach the config (make randconfig) onto this bug report.

Reopen with kernel version (huh, pretty important when reporting kernel bugs, don't you think?) and emerge --info output.

I'm probably dense: which kernel and version are you compiling?
sorry, copy+paste not the full info, I am running under kernel 2.6.16-gentoo-r3 and tried to compile the same kernel version but with a different config.
Heh, thanks ;)
See the help text for MSNDCLAS_INIT_FILE, you have to download firmware files
