when emerging flex, it gets built without -fPIC, which at least breaks sci-mathematics/snns. Adding "append-flags -fPIC" to src_compile() fixes the relocation problems.

why? what's so special about flex? there are apps in portage which do - so why dont compile flex with -fPIC?

It also breaks glimpse. Please, add "pic" USE flag for trying to solve it.

the packages have always been broken then which implies improper KEYWORDing

Any update on this? app-misc/glimpse and sci-mathematics/snns are still broken?

This bug also stops setools-2.4 on amd64 platform from building.
