Description Andy Getz 2006-04-09 14:52:27 UTC
Upon reboot following upgrade to baselayout-1.12.0_pre17, kernel panics upon starting net.eth0 script. Problem script was isolated via interactive startup to any net.ethX script, but not net.lo. Skipping net.ethX init scripts via interactive startup allowed normal system function and manual configuration of interfaces via dhcpcd worked and allowed network traffic as normal. Although problem repeated each time system was booted with baselayout-1.12.0_pre17, a reversion to baselayout-1.12.0_pre16-r3 immediately restored the system boot and function to normal.

If needed (probably), I can certainly reinstall pre_17, reboot, and transcribe the panic message; please ask me to if it would help.

Network cards are:
"Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5705M_2 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 03)" using bcm570x-8.2.18 and in-kernel tg3 drivers (both fail)
"Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection (rev 05)" using ipw2200-1.1.2 and ipw2200-firmware-3.0 from portage.
All NIC drivers are built as modules.

emerge --info after reverting to _pre16-r3:

Yes we will need that. If your interfaces use dhcp, could you try another dhcp client please?
Comment 2 Andy Getz 2006-04-11 17:49:05 UTC
Analysis of the OOPS message revealed that the problem was caused by an unofficial (overlay) dhclient version which had not conflicted with older baselayouts - my bad. A downgrade to an official portage version resolved my problem.

Thank you!
