http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-435192-highlight-.html are the day to day details with via-rhine module nodprobed or configured in the kernel, the sytem locks up after 60-90 mins. I dont reliuably get any error message, ( but have on a couple of (occasions). Googling the problem, there appears to be a problem with 2.6 kernels and this driver My system locks after 1 hr, others reporting it seem to have 1 lockup/day . should the details go to anyone else ? paul@dads ~ $ emerge info Portage 2.0.54 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) processor Gentoo Base System version 1.6.14 distcc 2.16 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.1.3-r1, 2.2.3-r5, 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.4.19-r1, 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon -O3 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow X aalib alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cdparanoia cdr crypt cups curl directfb eds emboss encode esd ethereal exif expat fam ffmpeg flac foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm gif glut gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 guile howl idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg junit kde lcms libg++ libwww mad mhash mikmod mmx mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql nas ncurses nls nsplugin ogg oggvorbis openal opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png postgres python qt quicktime readline samba scanner sdl slang spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev usb vcd vorbis win32codecs xine xml2 xmms xv xvid zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY paul@dads ~ $
2.6.11 is several months old. Please reproduce on the latest kernel (2.6.15), or even better, the latest development kernel (2.6.16-rc5)
see comment #1
updating to 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 seems to fix it
