Teach me to search before submitting a bug. I will include my summary for my other bug as I think it may (or may not) help:

When emerging bsd-games, the make script fails when it finds that
/usr/share/dict/words (used for boggle) does not exist. This makes me believe
that either bsd-games is missing a dependancy. The other option I believe (but
am less sure about because of my unfamiliarity with cracklib) is that cracklib
is supposed to provide this dictionary. I am using the ~amd64 cracklib so I am
not sure about the stable one but this version of cracklib provides a
/usr/share/dict/cracklib-small file which appears to be a dictionary that
allows bsd-games to compile if a 'words' symlink is made. I am not sure what
package is actually supposed to provide the /usr/share/dict/words file but I
don't have it and it is not being brought in as a dependancy.

Creating this symlink worked for me as well, thanks, but of course this is just a workaround.
Comment 5 Nicholas Doyle 2006-03-12 11:36:24 UTC
Actually, for me, making the symlink let it emerge but later, once I tried playing boggle, it crashed and did nothing. So really all the symlink did was say there was a file there and let the emerge continue. It really doesn't 'fix' anything. What I am wondering really is what provides words.

Fix for ebuild

I found the problem, there is a missing dependency (sys-apps/miscfiles). Here is a patch for the ebuild.

fixed in portage. thanks for the bug report and patch.
