if $CXX is set to 'gcc' (what seems to be the default on gentoo 1.2 boxes)
configuration of dev-libs/gmp complains:

configure: error: C++ compiler not available

to fix this, variable CXX has to be set to "g++" (btw, why is it set to "gcc" on
1.2?)

additional infos:
all gcc 2 ebuilds set $CXX to 'gcc' in /etc/env.d/05gcc; gcc 3 ebuilds set it to
'g++'.

why isn't it always set to 'g++'?

Err, it was me in a braindead stage.  Should already be fixed, please just
fix it local for yourself ...
