When I compile cscope I get the following ACCESS VIOLATION :

Removing the "emacs" use flag solve the problem, but all the emacs plugins/ programs I try to compile have similar ACCESS_VIOLATION

Looks like this is an issue with elisp-common rather than cscope itself.

incidentally, is any part of portage, eg. /usr/portage or /var/tmp/portage mounted via a network filesystem?

No, I don't have any part of portage mounted with network filesystems.

OK, this issue has nothing in common with cscope anyway.
