Hi,

Is it possible for someone to make an ebuild to have festival in french ?

There is a project about (partially) that :
http://www.culte.org/projets/biglux/devel/lao/franfest.shtml
But I'm not able at all to integrate it in my gentoo, it uses festival 1.95_beta which is not yet in portage.

I think it would be great.

I made that ebuild to have festival in french some times ago. But after a stupid rm /dont-delete-my-overlay-directory i lost the last working version of the ebuild file :(

Above you will find an older version i have made. It should certainly work after some little modifications.

PS: I didn't remember exactly how i managed to install the french voices in mbrola, but the directory structures looked like this in /opt:

mbrola/fr1
mbrola/fr1/fr1 <------------------fr1 voice database
mbrola/fr1/TEST <------------------ seem not necessary

If i remember well, you need to call festival with:

festival --language french --tts

to get the french voices ( male and female were working ;) )

Hope that helps

Hi,

my earlier posts #1 and #2 have no sens anymore. Please, see bug # 152652 instead, i spend a lot of time to get it work. I'm sorry that gentoo doesn't integrate it in r3 release. Anyway the build is reliable but needs still more testers. :)

I open three topics on both forums, french and english: two about franfest and one about liaphon. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-510889-highlight-festival.html
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-510329-highlight-festival.html

FYI Festival and franfest depend on speech-tool and mbrola packages. For my taste, it isn't a good idea to include speech-tool in festival directly. They are independent packages.

Franfest probably won't evolve further because the devs are working hard on liaphon (not the lite version), thought exclusively for french language and incompatible with festival. I hope it will be soon french canadian and african accents too. That's just a matter of time. Wait and see ;)

Also, voices are impressive.

Hope that could help someone
