Description Surakshan Mendis 2005-12-28 01:12:16 UTC
xpdf-3.01-r4 blocking poppler EVEN when no version of xpf is installed.
For an example, when I run emerge world -uvaD I get

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[blocks B ] <app-text/xpdf-3.01-r4 (is blocking app-text/poppler-0.4.3-r1)
[ebuild N ] app-text/xpdf-3.01-r3 +X +motif 0 kB

BUT xpdf is not installed, attempts to uninstall it show,

emerge -C xpdf
>>> unmerge: No packages selected for removal.one!
[blocks B ] <app-text/xpdf-3.01-r4 (is blocking app-text/poppler-0.4.3-r1)
[ebuild N ] app-text/xpdf-3.01-r3 +X +motif 0 kB

Also note that if app-text/xpdf-3.01-r3 is installed the blocker still mentions version 3.01-r4 (which is not installed).

In the app-text/xpdf-3.01-r4 ebuild in the RDEPEND section there is:
!=app-text/xpdf-3.01-r4"

which is responsible for the blocking message, however is it meant to have a version like that? (note the < sign in the blocking message as well) maybe that's why it's blocking incorrectly as in my case i don't have xpdf installed in the first place.

I've rated it critical, it's stopping the build process dead in its track

The problem is because app-text/xpdf-3.01-r4 is still in ~arch for all arches!
Perhaps it should be marked as stable?
Comment 4 Surakshan Mendis 2005-12-28 01:36:37 UTC
Err Sorry, I just noticed that the poppler version in question is ~ach as well, indeed it's in my packages.keywords file. So this bug really isn't a bug. I filed it under the assumption that poppler was marked stable!

Marked invalid

Now I'm confused,
if i don't have xpdf installed at all it shouldn't be blocking anyway!
I've reopened, someone help me deal with it!
Comment 6 Surakshan Mendis 2005-12-28 01:45:25 UTC
Marking invalid again. I understand the problem now, there is none.
poppler used to work with the stable ebuild of xpdf, the new one depends on a ~ version of xpdf, the block is for versions BELOW a certain version not for any version.

Sorry for any inconvenience
