The swish-e package comes with a lot of useful code, for example filters for indexing PDF files, that don't appear to be showing up after the ebuild runs. After an emerge, have a look at /var/tmp/portage/swish-e-2.2.2-r2/work/swish-e-2.2.2 You will see something like this: DreamGate swish-e-2.2.2 # ls -CF INSTALL README configure.in html/ tests/ MANIFEST conf/ doc/ perl/ win32.nsi MANIFEST.SKIP config.log example/ pod/ win32src.nsi Makefile config.status* filter-bin/ prog-bin/ Makefile.in configure* filters/ src/ DreamGate swish-e-2.2.2 # The ebuild is installing "conf/" and "html/" into /usr/share/doc/swish-e-2.2.2-r2/. I'm not sure what else it's installing, but it seems to have missed "filter-bin" and "filters". I'm not sure where those should end up. I'm going to do a manual install from the source and see where they land.
I built 2.4.3 manually and installed everything under /opt so I could see where the results landed. It turns out that the files I need end up in /opt/share/doc/swish-e/examples That may be a 2.4.3 difference. There seems to be another bug on getting 2.4.3 to work in Gentoo -- 103072. I've added my email address to that one.
