xine-lib and mplayer can build with xvid support if xvid is installed, so maybe these ebuilds could have an xvid dependency, possibly with a new use var. A use var would let people choose between divx4linux and xvid since these codecs appear to be incompatible. Also, xvid-0.9.0 builds fine, though I haven't tested encoding (and if possible, change source@pipeline to jap1@ionet in the ChangeLog).
I fixed your email address in the ChangeLog. I'll look into trying to add xvid support to xine a bit later.
What is the take on this ? Dont it use xvid if found, and ffmpeg for divx like mplayer ?
I still haven't had the time to have a look at xvid. I'm a bit busy right now; Martin, if you feel like taking this bug over, feel free. ;^)
the use var exists, but neither mplayer, nor xine uses it as far as i can tell

There now is a global xvid use flag, and I just closed out bug #30242. Looking into it for xine, unless others want to handle it.
Slip this in after the security bug is handled.
Looks like the bug this depends on was fixed. Did I miss something or is it OK to close this bug?
