When I use "/usr/bin/firefox URL" to open URL in the firefox browser it sometimes does not work properly. /usr/bin/firefox is a script that runs mozilla launcher. An example URL is "http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/kino/0,1518,388979,00.html". That URL arrives in firefox as "http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/kino/0" so the stuff behind the komma is cut off. If I use "/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox-bin http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/kino/0,1518,388979,00.html" it works correctly so I suppose it's a mozilla-launcher issue. mozilla-launcher version is www-client/mozilla-launcher Latest version available: 1.45 Latest version installed: 1.45 Size of downloaded files: 5 kB Homepage: http://dev.gentoo.org/~agriffis/dist/ Description: Script that launches mozilla or firefox License: GPL-2 my firefox is www-client/mozilla-firefox Latest version available: 1.5 Latest version installed: 1.5 Size of downloaded files: 33,726 kB Homepage: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/ Description: Firefox Web Browser License: MPL-1.1 NPL-1.1 I run a ~x86 system. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.use /usr/bin/firefox URL with an URL that includes kommas 2.firefox opens URL up to the komma Actual Results: Firefox got the wrong URL (only the part till the ",") Expected Results: firefox should have gotten the correct URL from mozilla-launcher
Okay, tested a little more: It does _not_ happen if the command _starts_ firefox, only if firefox is already running and it is supposed to open a new tab for the link.
Okay, traced it further today: The command /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/mozilla-xremote-client -a firefox openurl\(http://www.tagesschau.de/aktuell/meldungen/0,1185,OID5070052_REF1,00.html\) has the same problem, it only opens the url "http://www.tagesschau.de/aktuell/meldungen/0".
See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298960. It looks like it's been fixed in their CVS.
Simple workaround is to invoke /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox http://...go,where.you,want.html instead of the /usr/bin/firefox script.
I cannot reproduce this with the ~x86 version of mozilla-firefox, which is www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.1-r3. Maybe both this and bug #102528 can be closed now?
already fixed upstream
Apparently, upstream has this re-opened. I see this (incorrect) behavior with mozilla-launcher-1.49 and firefox 1.5.0.3. Bummer!
