Here is the section of xorg.conf: FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/corefonts" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/freefont" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/sharefonts" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/terminus" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/ttf-bitstream-vera" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/unifont" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/artwiz" If I take off the ":unscaled" off of the three fonts that have it, Xorg loads fine. It refused to load unscaled ones. If needed I can reproduce Xorg's log. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. unmerge old xorg-x11. 2. unmask and emerge modular xorg-x11 (7.0.0 rc1). 3. attempt to load fonts with the unscaled option. Actual Results: Xorg does not load. Expected Results: It should load as it did before. Note also that I had a version of xorg monotithic cvs build from October 30 2005, and this bug did not arise then.
Give rc2 a try. If this is still an issue, post a bug at https://bugs. freedesktop.org and post the bug # here. Also, make sure you're not missing anything required for the unscaled portion to work. If the problem appeared in modular it's possible that there's some weird package you need to make this work.
Submitted bug to xorg devs after RC2 not being able to load unscaled fonts. Here is the link to the submission: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5038
Thanks!
They fixed it: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5047
OK, but it's not fixed in Gentoo yet.
Changing to UPSTREAM, pending addition of this fix to Gentoo either via patch or a new upstream release.
This was fixed upstream.
Ah, forgot about this bug. Fix was just added to libXfont-0.99.2-r1.
