Hi, dovecot-1.0_alpha4 was released Oct. 20th. Excerpt from changelog: "- IMAP: We might have sent extra EXPUNGE messages when output buffer got full. This could have caused various sorts of very bad behavior. This is the main reason why everyone should upgrade as soon as possible." So it might be a good idea to add this to portage, even though the 1.0 series is hardmasked. Renaming the ebuild seems to work fine. Thanks, Max Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Why is dovecot masked off?
I'd also like to know the reason for masking dovecot 1.0 versions. The author recommends 1.0alpha releases over any previous 0.99 release. If there are any Gentoo specific issues, please note them here - it may result in patch submissions...
Speaking from personal experience - alpha2 was unstable and alpha3 had memory issues. alpha4 was fine for me, but not on amd64 and was never put into portage (not sure if this was reason why). alpha5 is now in portage 0.99 is still the Gentoo stable version as there have been issues with every alpha version of dovecot shipped to date. Hopefully that will change with alpha5 :)
