When I try to bootstrap my system using stage1-x86-2005.1 and portage-20051006 on machine shown in `emerge info` below, there is an error compiling gettext, specifically in format-scheme.c. I get these errors: gcc: Internal error: Killed (program cc1) Please submit a full bug report. See <URL:http://bugs.gentoo.org/> for instructions. {standard input}: Assembler messages: {standard input}:2077: Warning: end of file not at end of a line; newline inserted {standard input}:2999: Error: bad register name `%e' make[4]: *** [format-lisp.lo] Error 1 make[4]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... gcc: Internal error: Killed (program cc1) ->cascading make errors I tried changing optimization to -O2, but had the same trouble. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Follow the Gentoo documentation like a good semi-competent newbie, create a make.conf file shown below. 2. Run scripts/bootstrap.sh Actual Results: See above. Expected Results: Bootstrap my system. I have ignored repeated (I tried many, many times) errors about being unable to finish `emerge --sync`, because it has recieved xfce-extra, and that appears to be the last thing needed to sync. -------------emerge --info----------- Portage 2.0.51.22-r3 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.3.5-20050130, glibc-2.3.4. 20041102-r1, 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 i586) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 i586 Pentium 75 - 200 Gentoo Base System version 1.6.12 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.11 sys-devel/autoconf: [Not Present] sys-devel/automake: [Not Present] sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: [Not Present] virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i586-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=i586 -pipe" CHOST="i586-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/ config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=i586 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 alsa apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts crypt cups encode fbcon foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gpm imlib jpeg libg++ libwww mad mp3 mpeg ncurses nls ogg oggvorbis oss pam pdflib perl php png python readline spell ssl tcpd truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts vorbis xml2 zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY -----------/etc/make.conf------------- # These settings were created by a n00b. You are probably out of memory/diskspace or have bad hardware. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 20600 ***
