When the USB (Merlin Gerin Protection center 500 USB) cable is plugged in my computer, the kernel will hang early in the boot process. When the cable is removed, the computer boot normaly. If the cable is pluged during the boot process (after kernel initialisation) there is no problem The UPS and UPS connection with nut works well in normal operation Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Power on computer, USB cable plugged 2. Chose the kernel (2.6.12-r10) in LILO Actual Results: Computer in frozen, need to reboot. Expected Results: Normal boot process Motherboard : MSI K7N420 Pro (nforce1 Chipset) athlon ~ # emerge info Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r1, 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mir.zyrianes.net/gentoo/ ftp://130.59.10.34/mirror/gentoo/ http://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo/ ftp://194.117.143.69/mirrors/gentoo http://194.117.143.71" LANG="fr_FR@euro" LC_ALL="fr_FR.UTF-8" LINGUAS="fr" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowext X acpi alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl divx4linux dvd eds emboss encode esd fam flac foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm gif gimpprint gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg junit kde libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx mmxext motif mp3 mpeg nas ncurses nls nptl nvidia ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl pic png pps python qt quicktime readline scanner sdl slang speex spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts trutype type1-fonts usb vorbis win32codecs wmf xine xinerama xml2 xmms xv zlib linguas_fr userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LDFLAGS
Created attachment 69290 [details] Kernel config file I will take a picture of the screen next time I reboot my computer and post it
Created attachment 69334 [details] Screenshot Note that this screenshot is from a 2.6.12-r9 kernel since I use gensplash for 2.6.12-r10 and I dont see any error message (but the comuter is still frozen)
Is this reproducable in newer kernels (2.6.13, or even better, vanilla-sources-2.6.14_rc2)?
I will give a try to vanilla-sources-2.6.14_rc2 (I will download tonight cause I have a slow rtc connection)
It works with 2.6.14-rc2 (But I dont want to use neither vanilla sources ou unstable kernel)
Dont work with gentoo-sources 2.6.13-r3
gentoo-sources-2.6.14 is now in portage
