(In reply to comment #0) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > resolve.conf > > nameserver 10.1.1.1 > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's supposed to be resolv.conf, for start... If that's just a typo, then your DNS server sucks, don't you think that there would be tons of bugs if mirrors were not resolveable?
Yes, typo. /etc/resolv.conf If you notice after the resolution of the name by emerge fails, that I can immediatly ping that same name and have it work just fine? That works for any mirror name that I've tried. emerge fails to resolve, ping works just fine. I'm not saying that my nameserver doesn't suck, but I'm at a loss on how this happens.
emerge can resolve mirror names. Please look at the error output you posted: Resolving distfiles.gentoo.org... 1.0.0.0 Connecting to distfiles.gentoo.org[1.0.0.0]:80... something is screwed up with your name resolution. This is not a problem with emerge. I do not know why it works w/ ping and not with emerge, but it's not a bug in emerge. Please use the normal avenues for obtaining user support. Forums, gentoo-user, etc.
