Most likely you ran out of memory or your hardware is broken (bad ram,
overheating box,...).

Ya, or hard drive space.  Make sure you have lots of room free.  Try cleaning
out some big files from /usr/portage/distfiles.

If you can generate the bug in the *exact* same place again, please re-open this
bug.
