Description RDWest 2005-09-15 15:33:06 UTC
i'm a total noob
this is my first post in bugs
i hope i'm doing this right

i'm disabled and do web design at home
my gentoo is a stage 1 install

after recent updates last week i think it was - i emerge sync and baselayout was
in -uDav
several people said to resync and emerge the updated baselayout for a bug fix
that didn't fix it

net.lo is set at boot in rc-update

*****here's a note to help****
it was built using [ RC_DEVICES="udev" ]
the updates had set that to 'auto'
i set it back
its doing the same both ways

eth0 does not show booting at all(but its working)
mysql boots where it is suppose to and don't start and is giving errors

then net.lo comes up right before local at login prompt

notes-----
i found one bug of same issue
it said
set rc parallel startup to yes as a work around
that didn't change nothing on mine

one guy in the forums told me to [ rc-update del net.lo ]
and then add it back [ rc-update add net.lo boot ]

it worked the first reboot
net.lo came up right before run level 3

then i seen eth0 come up in run 3
and mysql came up as it should and started fine
everything was a go

i decided to test it again
so i rebooted and it went right back to the same

then deleting and adding lo back to boot has no effect now

that just worked first time

sorry for my poor grammer
i'm about a total noob to gentoo
so please try to explain if you can

i have to restart mysql after boot so mail and website runs

tx

you didnt post `emerge info`
Comment 3 RDWest 2005-09-15 19:09:51 UTC
ok - here is where i'm at now
i found a post in the forums where eth0 is starting in the background
and lo starting at end of run lvl 3

one reply has his [ RC_NET_STRICT_CHECKING="lo" ]
so i tried that - mine was set to "no"

it booted fine first time
lo came up then random number and then run lvl 3
eth0 came up in run 3 as expected

the second reboot went back to lo last etc

i did a shutdown -h now
let it set about 5 minutes

booted it up and everything booted right
i have rebooted it about 4 times now
and it booting right every time now it seems

now have i created just a work-around
for a problem i need to work out?

i don't have a clue

here is emerge info
see if anything is wrong etc
