Not sure why... but xine-lib-1.1.0-r2 will not play flac files in amaroK, i
reverted to xine-lib-1.1.0 today, and they are playing fine. info as follows.

Comment 1 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-09-02 16:16:38 UTC
Hmm can you try recompile now? I have no problems playing flac files on both
1.1.0 and 1.1.0-r2.

Comment 2 Dan 2005-09-02 17:19:48 UTC
Not working here still... reupgrade still fails on flacs.
Comment 3 Albert Holm 2005-09-03 05:08:57 UTC
Did not work for me with 1.1.0-r2 and does not work for me with 1.1.0-r3.
Comment 4 Albert Holm 2005-09-04 05:30:01 UTC
I don't know if this is related. I have downloaded the Real network codec from
the mplayer site and with -r2 or -r3 my xine-lib based player does not work at
all when trying to play Real network streams. Downgrading to same version that
fixes FLAC also fixes Real.
Comment 5 yardbird 2005-09-06 12:32:40 UTC
Same here. Downgrading from 1.1.0-r3 to 1.1.0 solved the issue, which btw
appears with amarok in my case. Haven't tried with other media players.
Comment 6 Georgi Chulkov 2005-09-14 15:27:37 UTC
Same FLAC problem with 1.1.0-r4.
Comment 7 Andrew Gaydenko 2005-09-24 07:54:25 UTC
The same with r2-r4!

Dan, will you rise the Severity?
Comment 8 Dan 2005-09-24 12:43:16 UTC
comment 7 is right, this is major, switching it now... not being able to play
flacs is really not good...
Comment 9 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-04 04:31:22 UTC
Still cannot reproduce, they play fine here.

Could someone look if in /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.0 there's a
xineplug_flac.so?
If not, can you attach the configure output?

Thanks.

xine-lib-1.1.0-r4 config.log when result is that flac can't play

> Could someone look if in /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.0 there's a
> xineplug_flac.so?

The file is there, with a modified time according to the latest -r4 compilation
I just performed. No flac is played.

> If not, can you attach the configure output?

Not sure if it helps as the file exists, but adding anyway.
Comment 11 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-04 05:50:49 UTC
Can you try without -march=athlon-xp ?

Which version of flac are you using?
Comment 12 Albert Holm 2005-10-04 06:20:03 UTC
Waiting on recompile so I answer the second question while waiting. I use flac-
1.1.2-r3 from ~x86 keyword.
Comment 13 Albert Holm 2005-10-04 06:30:51 UTC
Recompiled without -march. No change.
Comment 14 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-04 06:38:47 UTC
Please paste your emerge info.
The only thing I can think of is some kind of useflag or cflag interfering in
all of this because here it works fine :/

Comment 16 Alex Dedul 2005-10-08 04:01:18 UTC
Seems like i found what caused this bug(for me its also didn't play mp3 files
too). It started to work after downgrade from 1.1.0-r4 to 1.1.0 as noted in
comment #5. After that i looked into -r4 and tried to remove
090_all_external-libs.patch from xine-lib-patches-15.tar.bz2. Without it
1.1.0-r4 works as good as 1.1.0. My emerge info follows

Comment 17 Andrew Gaydenko 2005-10-08 10:08:27 UTC
I'm sure the bug severity must be rised up. The reason is GLSA 200510-08:

"... xine-lib contains a format string error in CDDB response handling that
may be exploited to execute arbitrary code.

Comment 18 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-10-10 17:43:46 UTC
Okay seems like I can't reproduce it here in anyway...
So I *really* need help from someone here that can reproduce it.

The only thing I can think in 090 patch is the following hunk:

Index: xine-lib-1.1.0/src/libffmpeg/audio_decoder.c
===================================================================
--- xine-lib-1.1.0.orig/src/libffmpeg/audio_decoder.c

   BUF_AUDIO_SHORTEN,

+ BUF_AUDIO_MPEG,
   0
 };

everything else should not interfer with flac playing (neither should this,
but that is the only thing I can think of).
Can someone try to remove that hunk and try the new patch?

If that still doesn't work, can you try with mad useflag enabled?

Comment 19 Andrew Gaydenko 2005-10-10 22:14:14 UTC
I have "mad" useflag turned on already, anf have looked at portage tmp dir while
building. The

BUF_AUDIO_MPEG,

is not commented (it is so for r6, at least :-))
Comment 20 Georgi Chulkov 2005-10-11 02:31:20 UTC
It doesn't work on -r5 or -r6. This is my emerge --info.

I'm seeing this also. This is with media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.0-r6.

Reverting to media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.0 makes flac work again.

Here are the USE flags that are in effect on both of my compiles of xine:

Hi...

I had this problem with previous versions, but today i emerged xine-lib-1.1.0-r7
and now i can play back flac again. Maybe someone can assure if things are
working now, and mark the bug as resolved ;)
Comment 24 Andrew Gaydenko 2005-11-14 07:08:41 UTC
The issue seems to be gone with r7 for me too.
Comment 25 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-14 07:16:16 UTC
Ok good :)
Sorry, it was my fault all this time :|
