Which version of kopete?
(In reply to comment #1) > Which version of kopete? > i forgot. sorry! ;) $ kopete -v Qt: 3.3.4 KDE: 3.4.2 Kopete: 0.10.3
If you're using ICQ and happens when you're offline, this could be https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104617, even if the backtrace looks different... can you confirm?
hej Gregorio, I had a look at the link you submitted. After that I tried again several times... but the bug I submitted also occurs if I'm online or trying to send a message using another protocol kind regards :)
Ok, since the problem involves mng you can try recompiling libmng and qt. Please also post the output of "ldd /usr/kde/3.4/bin/kopete".

hej. did a qt and libmng recompile. didnt help so far... any further suggestions?
i've had problems like this and for me it was related to KDE's malloc. I've updated the kdelibs ebuild (to 3.4.2-r1) to disable kde malloc compilation. You may also want to try KDE_MALLOC=0 environment variable before starting kopete and see if that helps.
I can confirm that the occuring bug seems to be fixed in -r1 of kdelibs like "Caleb Tennis" said: "i've had problems like this and for me it was related to KDE's malloc. I've updated the kdelibs ebuild (to 3.4.2-r1) to disable kde malloc compilation. You may also want to try KDE_MALLOC=0 environment variable before starting kopete and see if that helps." as aforesaid merging kdelibs342-r1 worked for me. the latter (KDE_MALLOC=0) didn't. thanks for your hint :-)
For the record, the KDE_MALLOC variable never had any effect bacause it only works when compiling kdelibs with --enable-fast-malloc=yes. With --enable-fast-malloc=full the fast malloc is always enabled.
hey guys, I do have to reopen the bug as it seems to appear again after using kopete for some days for no obvious reason. I'm distressed. :( regards
Created attachment 70735 [details] started kopete via konsole, then cut the output hej guys, after updating to 3.4.3 (including kde libs etc) the bug still exists. this time it worked like the time before - when updated kdelibs from 3.4.2 to 3.4.2-r1 - for one chatting session. it crashes constantly... probably the output helps you more this time :) kind regards
The output has the lines: socket has been closed... socket error is remote host closed connection... so this is related in some ways to these bugs: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107023 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=102217 At this point I suggest to report it to http://bugs.kde.org, this is probably not Gentoo related...
