The german company "metaspinner media" introduced the Linux version of their tool named "Preispiraten" today. It searches in almost all online-shops which are based in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, at once. It's a noteable tool, quite featurerich. It's the only of it's kind for Linux afaik - at least concerning Europe. this is currently a placeholder only, ebuild is being added soon. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Just noted that it also allows to search through eBay USA, and some other places, but isnt translated to something else except german. further on, there is no source code available, it is a closed source application available in binary form - statically linked - only. there are version numbers, but the corresponding archives do not contain them inside of their name. so one would need to rename them to "<original archive name>-version.tar.gz" which shouldnt be a problem, but i'll mail the company and explain the problem to them. maybe they additionally host them (on savannah or sourceforge) with version strings included within the name... so far.
I have some trouble determining the license of it. It is in a way totally clear, but also kind of "unexpressable"... Can someone please help me? It can be found here: http://www.preispiraten.de/nutzung.shtml (German!) Is it "as-is" or ...hm. Well, if noone else knows, I'll ask the vendor himself.
Created attachment 64578 [details] /opt/preispiraten-1.0/preispiraten Fixed version of the file.
I just had the ebuild almost ready to go when i realized that this tool seems to be unable to use the directory "~/.foo" to store it's configs. I wont continue to work on this untill the vendor fixes this - we can hardly make something in /opt writeable for all...
