cvs doesn't even login without using the -f option; I don't see in the manpage that -f should be used while login - also -f seems to be needed on gentoo only. check your ~/.cvsrc as the command you provided works perfectly for me. also provide your emerge info and the output from 'emerge -pv cvs'
