-bash: /etc/profile: line 62: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `"'
-bash: /etc/profile: line 64: syntax error: unexpected end of file
-bash: dircolors: command not found
-bash-3.00#

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. booting system
Actual Results:
besides others:
- have to give full directories to run commands e.g. '/bin/ls' instead of 'ls'
or '/usr/bin/emacs' instead of 'emacs'
- Xorg and dxm are not started

Expected Results:
clean boot

(couldn't copy and paste or run 'emerge --info')
same as here:

the fact that /etc/profile is complaining about a syntax error should have
tipped you off where to look

stock /etc/profile is less than 60 lines long so all i can assume is that you
locally modified it but made a typo somewhere

attach your /etc/profile if that is not the case and re-open

Grrr - have you got a "thickie of the week" section in your newsletter?!
Sorry for this false report.

When copying the last quotation mark didn't find it's way into the document :-(
