looks like your cpu cooling may suck try running cpuburn If it ALWAYS stop at the same spot, try to remove -march=k6 flag. There has been some problems about what the different old AMD's actually can do and not, along gcc bugs around this. Ah. Isn't this a dupe of Bug #96181 ? Same error here. I'm copying what I wrote in bug 96181 comment #11 (In reply to comment #5) > $restore $backupdir/* `echo "./info.info" | sed 's|[^/]*$||'`; \ > fi; \ > rm -rf $backupdir; exit $rc > /bin/sh: line 1: 15017 Illegal instruction ..//makeinfo/makeinfo -I . -o > texinfo.info `test -f 'texinfo.txi' || echo './'`texinfo.txi > make[2]: *** [texinfo.info] Error 132 > make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/texinfo-4.8/work/texinfo-4.8/doc' > make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 > make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/texinfo-4.8/work/texinfo-4.8' > make: *** [all] Error 2 > > !!! ERROR: sys-apps/texinfo-4.8 failed. > !!! Function src_compile, Line 47, Exitcode 2 I'm getting kind of the same error here - it's just, that I don't get the "make" output. IOW: it ends with: if ..//makeinfo/makeinfo -I . \ -o info.info `test -f 'info.texi' || echo './'`info.texi; \ then \ rc=0; \ else \ rc=$?; \ $restore $backupdir/* `echo "./info.info" | sed 's|[^/]*$||'`; \ fi; \ rm -rf $backupdir; exit $rc I'm getting this during run of "scripts/bootstrap.sh". Since bootstrapping doesn't work, I'd be happy if someone could raise the severity of this bug. Critical would suffice. I'm bootstrapping in a chroot of my normal Gentoo system for a new Gentoo system. The normal Gentoo system is a system build with: CFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" The new one will be with: CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" server tree # emerge info Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.5, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.12-ck4.010.reiser4.nfsv4.inotify.genkernel i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-ck4.010.reiser4.nfsv4.inotify.genkernel i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 dev-lang/python: 2.3.4-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: [Not Present] sys-devel/automake: [Not Present] sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r1 sys-devel/libtool: [Not Present] virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/bind /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://php2.ath.cx/~askwar/gentoo-files/ http://stuff.alexander.skwar.name/gentoo/ http://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo/ http://distfiles.gentoo.org/" LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="de" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/build" PORTDIR="/Gentoo/Portage/tree" SYNC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 GAPING_SECURITY_HOLE X a52 aac acpi alsa amd apm arts artswrappersuid async avi berkdb bluetooth bootsplash browserplugin cardbus ccache cdda cddb cdio cdparanoia cdrom cle266 crypt css cups curlwrappers dbus devmap dillo directfb divx4linux dlloader dvd dvdread emoticon exif fam fbcon fbdev fbsplash firefox fping freetype gdbm gif gnokii gnome gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal hpn icc id3 idn imap imlib imlib2 insecure-drivers insecure-savers javascript jikes jpeg kde libedit libwww logrotate lynxkeymap mad maildir matroska mbox mmx mmxext mozilla moznoirc mozsvg mp3 mpeg mpeg2 mpeg4 mplayer multicall ncurses network new-login nfs nis nls no-old-linux no-suexec noantlr nobcel nobeanutils nobsf nobsh nocommonslogging nocommonsnet nodrm nogg nogulm nojoystick nojsch nojython nolog4j nomac nooro nopri norhino noxalan noxerces nozaptel nsplugin offensive ogg oggvorbis opengl openssh pam pam_console pam_timestamp passfile password patented pccts pcmcia pcre perl perlsuid player png pnp qt quicktime rar readline real recode reiserfs sendfile sensord sftp sms spell spf sse sse2 ssl startup-notification stream subp subtitles suid symlink sysfs syslog transcode truetype truetype-fonts trusted type1-fonts underscores unichrome unicode unsafe usb utf8 uudeview vim vim-pager vim-with-x vlm vorbis wifi win32codecs wma123 x11vnc xinetd xml xml2 xmms xpm xscreensaver xv xvid xvmc zlib video_cards_via linguas_de userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LC_ALL, PORTDIR_OVERLAY [11:28:38 alexander@server:~] $ cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 6 model : 8 model name : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ stepping : 1 cpu MHz : 1660.336 cache size : 256 KB fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 1 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse syscall mmxext 3dnowext 3dnow bogomips : 3295.28 [11:28:39 alexander@server:~] $ cat /proc/meminfo MemTotal: 516440 kB MemFree: 15784 kB Buffers: 3016 kB Cached: 140436 kB SwapCached: 66840 kB Active: 382084 kB Inactive: 74116 kB HighTotal: 0 kB HighFree: 0 kB LowTotal: 516440 kB LowFree: 15784 kB SwapTotal: 774632 kB SwapFree: 387160 kB Dirty: 8 kB Writeback: 0 kB Mapped: 342120 kB Slab: 30936 kB CommitLimit: 1032852 kB Committed_AS: 792232 kB PageTables: 3036 kB VmallocTotal: 516020 kB VmallocUsed: 40280 kB VmallocChunk: 475500 kB (In reply to comment #4) > > /bin/sh: line 1: 15017 Illegal instruction ..//makeinfo/makeinfo -I . -o > System uname: 2.6.12-ck4.010.reiser4.nfsv4.inotify.genkernel i686 AMD Athlon(tm) > XP 2000+ > CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" > [11:28:38 alexander@server:~] $ cat /proc/cpuinfo > processor : 0 > vendor_id : AuthenticAMD > cpu family : 6 > model : 8 > model name : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ Ok, I butchered your output a bit, but the fact is that you are using -march=pentium4 on a AMD XP, which will not work ... Jae, try changing -march=k6 to -march=i586 as already suggested. (In reply to comment #5) > Ok, I butchered your output a bit, but the fact is that you are using > -march=pentium4 on a AMD XP, which will not work ... Yep, I found that out too. > Jae, try changing -march=k6 to -march=i586 as already suggested. To fix the issue for me, I changed the "-march=pentium4" to "-mtune=pentium4" (or rather -mcpu=pentium4, since during bootstrap gcc 3.3.x is/was used). sounds good |
