Should this also fail on a non chroot multilib box? If so drop me a line and I
will post my emerge --info and other info you might need. On my box this build
without problems.

the chroot should have nothing to do with it

also note that this this setup includes USE="hardened" and a no-multilib profile

i'm not sure if that has anything to do with it... i'm kind of new to 64 bit archs

builds fine for me ...

if you re-emerge ncurses and then bash does it work ?

somehow that fixed it... very odd since i just installed the entire system a few
days ago
