What we need most is a gdb backtrace. See http://gaim.sf.net/gdb.php for instructions. Do you use arts for sound, by the way? I did have arts running, but have since removed it. I'll try again with out arts. I'll get you the gdb output soon. Thanks. Don, I think it might have been an arts issue. I have KDE installed, but I use XFCE4. Does arts still run? Anyway, I've since updated to KDE 3.4 and did not install arts, as well as the latest portage stable versions of XFCE4, gtk2, and xorg-x11. Gaim stayed running for as long as I was logged in last night. I think it might be solved! I'm going to leave gaim going all night, and see if it makes it. Thanks. Check gaim's sound preferences. Basically the bug is in libao's interaction with arts. See http://trac.xiph.org/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/ticket/644 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 87348 *** Don, I'm not seeing any more problems with gaim after disabling arts. I stayed logged in and didn't crash at all while doing various tasks. Thanks very much for your help. Greg |
