Bug 97702 – udev-059 is slow to startup

Since upgrading to udev-059 the initial populating of the /dev directory at boot time hangs for about 10 seconds after calling /sbin/udevstart. Before the upgrade there wasn't any noticable delay. Everything seems to be created fine eventually. Yet, I'm wondering why the startup time has increased dramatically.

Also it seems that hald is having problems with these timeouts. As soon as the system has started up, hald is endlessly filling the logs with entries like:
