Description Peter Humphrey 2005-06-20 16:06:38 UTC
With reference to
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=3&chap=2, it seems
to me that rsync timeouts occur because of too long being taken in processing
results locally between transfers, not because of a slow link. For instance, on
my dual-Opteron box I have 40s set, but on an ancient P5/60 I need to set it to
at least 600. Both these boxes use the same Internet connection.

Secondly, "amount" is for uncountable quantities such as water, not for
countable quantities such as seconds. "Number" is right for those.

Sorry if I sound a bit pernickety - I used to do this sort of thing for a
living, since when I can't help noticing things that I'd say differently :-(
