after emerging binutils-2.16.1 nothing will compile -- after further analysis,
it is because all of the links point to /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/binutils-bin/2.16
rather than /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/binutils-bin/2.16.1



Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge binutils-2.16.1
2. try to compile something else
3.

Actual Results:  
nothing compiled, nothing emerged

Expected Results:  
software was supposed to compile/emerge

Quick fix:  link 2.16 to 2.16.1 OR move 2.16.1 to 2.16

please update the emerge ebuild to reflect either options in the following
quickfix or have the ebuild re-create the links
