Summary: rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1 refuses to build on kernel 2.4.28-gentoo-r9
Product: Gentoo Linux Reporter: MAL <mal>
Component: Current packagesAssignee: Mobile Herd (OBSOLETE) <mobile+disabled>
Status: RESOLVED UPSTREAM
Severity: normal
Priority: High
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux

Description MAL 2005-06-07 13:49:24 UTC
The emerge fails with:

 * Determining the location of the kernel source code
 * Found kernel source directory:
 *     /usr/src/linux
 * Found sources for kernel version:
 *     2.4.28-gentoo-r9
 * Checking for suitable kernel configuration options

!!! ERROR: net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1 failed.
!!! Function pkg_setup, Line 31, Exitcode 1
!!! please use a kernel >=2.6.6
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

As a side note, why is there only the rt2x00.serialmonkey.com driver in portage,
and not the official one from ralinktech.com? They still seem to be releasing
them (latest being 4 days ago).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Comment 1 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-07 22:13:25 UTC
I am almost sure they have a fix in the cvs, can you please get a patch for me
to apply?
Comment 2 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-07 22:13:51 UTC
if you want to add an ebuild for the "official" driver, go ahead :)
Comment 3 MAL 2005-06-08 02:20:12 UTC
I'll have a look for a patch, but the ebuild fails due to it's own checking - it
doesn't even try and compile for 2.4.x
Is this version known to not work with 2.4.x and that's why <2.6.6 is blocked?

I just compiled the "official" driver by hand and the kernel panicked on load.
Guess I won't be bothering :p
Comment 4 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-10 08:33:51 UTC
The kernel 2.4 patch would need to come from the rt2x00project.
Closing this as UPSTREAM, please reopen when a patch for 2.4 support is available
Comment 5 MAL 2005-06-24 06:56:25 UTC
The status of this is wrong, it's not marked upstream, and it's certainly not
resolved.
Comment 6 Henrik Brix Andersen 2005-06-24 09:18:34 UTC
Reopening.
Comment 7 Henrik Brix Andersen 2005-06-24 09:19:05 UTC
Really closing as UPSTREAM this time.
