Hi,

Latest stable genkernel (3.1.5 on x86) with its default configuration doesn't build a kernel + initrd which boots inside vmware workstation.  Although both the SCSI disk driver and Fusion MPT driver are listed in the kernel configuration, when the kernel boots, there's no output to suggest that the scsi support has activated.  As a result, the kernel can't find /dev/sda3, and can't boot successfully.

If genkernel did build a VMware compatible kernel (i.e, when this bug is fixed),
would there be a chance of having VMware certify Gentoo linux as a compatible
host operating system?  Don't know if this is even a desired outcome by Gentoo
foundation, but wouldn't hurt I don't think.

Try booting with doscsi as a param to the kernel.

This is fixed in the latest genkernel pre-releases.  Also, it boots fine in
VMWare, as we use VMWare for testing.  You would still need to boot with
"doscsi" for this to work.
