sci-biology/wise is dead package with very dead upsteram.
It has bundled version of HMMER2 that fails to compile

It can't be unbundled and switched to in-tree HMMER2, because it uses functions removed from hmmer-2.3.2
Build system is of horrible quality

Oh, and I'm not sure if slapping -std=gnu17 would help, this system has per-directory CFLAGS with includes, well, included.
