Please attach the relevent part og your 'dmesg'. Which version of sys-apps/baselayout, sys-apps/udev and sys-apps/hotplug are you using? baselayout-1.11.12-r1 udev-056 hotplug-20040923 May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.0.4 May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel Corporation May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:02:02.0[A] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11 May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ipw2200: ipw-2.3-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2 May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ipw2200: failed to register network device May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:02.0 failed with error -5 May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'WEP' May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'CCMP' May 18 22:32:24 IBM-T40 ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'TKIP' I'm having the same problem with the same versions of baselayout and hotplug but udev 058. Please see if the notes at http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/#issues helps you solve this (firmware timeout value). Also, please make sure that 'grep ^FIRMWARE_DIR /etc/hotplug/firmware.agent' yields "FIRMWARE_DIR=/lib/firmware". It was the last fix, thanks a lot! the FIRMWARE_DIR changed from /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware to /lib/firmware I guess, so must have been overlooked when I ran etc-update. Thank you. Harris, does this apply to you as well? The problem was the FIRMWARE_DIR value is /etc/hotplug/firmware_agent which was set to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware. I changed it to /lib/firmware and all works now. Thank you for verifying. Closing as WORKSFORME. |
