Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2024-03-18 13:41:37 UTC
Hello,

I was this morning trying to record a video of my screen with the built-in gnome-shell tool and I noticed that it was silently dying after two seconds.

Finally, this was caused by me having mutter built without screencast support.

I wonder about how we could make a "default" Gnome installation to work out of the box, either by:
- RDEPENDing on mutter[screencast] unconditionally or with a screencast USE flag
- Adding mutter[screencast] to the (already big) optfeature line.

Additionally, maybe we could consider default enabling "screencast" on gnome profiles and, by the way (as I noticed while I was checking our latest gnome-shell ebuild), "pipewire" too, as it seems to be more and more used in the tree.

Thanks
