I thought the issue was not about a required rebuild for ABI change, but for cifs-utils automagically linking to samba even with USE="-acl". Can you clarify? Can you > clarify? Hmmm, I suppose you're right - originally I thought of it as the former, but I did not know that it was not expected to link to samba with the latter. I will try and reproduce this to be certain.
