The file is installed to /usr/libexec/cvmfs/auto.cvmfs instead of /etc/auto.cvmfs (like rpm/deb installs)

I think we should either adjust the documentation on the client side https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/CVMFS or change the path for it to be consistent (or both).

This is not an issue anymore with cvmfs-2.11.2:

gentoo cvmfs $ qfile /etc/auto.cvmfs
net-fs/cvmfs: /etc/auto.cvmfs
gentoo cvmfs $ ls -l /etc/auto.cvmfs
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Mar 10 17:43 /etc/auto.cvmfs -> /usr/libexec/cvmfs/auto.cvmfs
gentoo cvmfs $ equery l cvmfs
 * Searching for cvmfs ...
