I will see if I can provide a patch for this. - you need to run the build.log through ansifilter, otherwise grep is confused: 4:39.57 warning: use of deprecated method `std::error::Error::cause`: `std::error::Error::description`: use the Display impl or to_string() this is (most likely) caused by a too new dev-lang/rust. mine is 1.72.0, so must be even lower. Confirmed, you need to restrict rust to a lower version than in tree. I misstyped my rust version, which is 1.73.0, just like you. Testing with dev-lang/rust-bin-1.69.0-r1 was successfull, so maximum version must be between those two versions. ok, confirmed: =virtual/rust-1.73.0 is broken, tested and confirmed with rust and rust-bin See 915306. It seems the patch has been merged into seamonkey-2.53.18_beta1 source, maybe it can be cherry picked from the seamonkey upstream source git this is the seamonkey commit to fix: https://gitlab.com/seamonkey-project/seamonkey-2.53-mozilla/-/commit/06a69d295531db9f54978266ea0f3bcaef1ad1d5 will need a little backporting The bug has been referenced in the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=00a1787960ea7c47a647cbb419f39f355970e52b commit 00a1787960ea7c47a647cbb419f39f355970e52b Author: Joonas Niilola <juippis@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2023-11-19 13:44:15 +0000 Commit: Joonas Niilola <juippis@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2023-11-19 13:44:15 +0000 www-client/seamonkey: add bug reference for the rust restriction Bug: https://bugs.gentoo.org/916304 Signed-off-by: Joonas Niilola <juippis@gentoo.org> www-client/seamonkey/seamonkey-2.53.17.1.ebuild | 1 + www-client/seamonkey/seamonkey-2.53.17.ebuild | 1 + 2 files changed, 2 insertions(+) https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=fe17fc7d6a071c253db1e326d1d880873605af4c commit fe17fc7d6a071c253db1e326d1d880873605af4c Author: stefson <herrtimson@yahoo.de> AuthorDate: 2023-11-18 06:22:22 +0000 Commit: Joonas Niilola <juippis@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2023-11-19 13:43:13 +0000 www-client/seamonkey: add rust upper bound requirement Bug: https://bugs.gentoo.org/916304 Signed-off-by: Steffen Kuhn <nielson2@yandex.com> Closes: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/33882 Signed-off-by: Joonas Niilola <juippis@gentoo.org> www-client/seamonkey/seamonkey-2.53.17.1.ebuild | 2 +- www-client/seamonkey/seamonkey-2.53.17.ebuild | 2 +- 2 files changed, 2 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) (In reply to tt_1 from comment #10) > this is the seamonkey commit to fix: > > https://gitlab.com/seamonkey-project/seamonkey-2.53-mozilla/-/commit/ > 06a69d295531db9f54978266ea0f3bcaef1ad1d5 > > will need a little backporting This could potentionally break a lot of things, so I'd rather not do that and wait for 2.53.18. Last weekend a "hot fix" was implemented to restict use of the newer rust version. It is better to wait until 2.53.18 gets released. True, the real fix for this is very messy indeed and will require to pull in various updated crates on top of the simd fix itself. It's just a nightmare, so yes please let's wait for the 2.53.18 release, even more so as there is no stable virtual/rust:0/llvm-17 I just upgraded today... and seamonkey compiles and works, so the hotfix seems to have fixed things. I have rust 1.73 apparently installed: $qlist -Iv rust app-eselect/eselect-rust-20210703 dev-lang/rust-1.73.0 dev-python/setuptools-rust-1.8.1 virtual/rust-1.73. wasn't that version incompatible? Oh got it, at this turn, emerge skipped the new version and the old binary remained in place. Before it was not working, but since now other dependent packages were rebuilt, it works (by chance) again. * www-client/seamonkey Latest version available: 2.53.17.1 Latest version installed: 2.53.17 Sorry for chiming in, only partially related: https://www.seamonkey-project.org/news https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.53.18/ So 2.53.18 is out already and might contain the fixes plus other things. this is correct, the fix is in 2.53.18 the patchset needs major backporting though, have a bit of patience please Hmmm.. released on the 9th? How did I miss that? I'll be leaving from home within a few hours for a week with the inlaws, so I have no time to get this properly done before that. It will be the first thing on my list when I get back. llvm/clang:17 support isn't yet fixed in upstream? The bug has been closed via the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=f785fd18c23c449a2372ca8e2eca0bdb9a94aa28 commit f785fd18c23c449a2372ca8e2eca0bdb9a94aa28 Author: Myckel Habets <gentoo-bugs@habets-dobben.nl> AuthorDate: 2024-01-07 20:54:57 +0000 Commit: Joonas Niilola <juippis@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2024-01-08 08:30:21 +0000 www-client/seamonkey: 2.53.18 version bump. Thanks a lot for the updates. (In reply to tt_1 from comment #19) > llvm/clang:17 support isn't yet fixed in upstream? llvm/clang:17 is now also present on various stable archs. Tried yesterday to build with it and didn't encounter any issues with building. Will switch it to llvm/clang:17 in the next ebuild. there is propably a new release in the making, 2.53.18.1 has been tagged in gitlab the other day and will propably be pushed out within the next days via the mirrors. |
Created attachment 873491 [details] build log on amd64 SeaMonkey fails to compile, I don't see an explicit error in the log, which I attach. Tried several times and the rest of the system is up-to-date.
