Occurs whenever gimp is interacted with in (as far as I can tell) any way using a stylus.
Stylus is used with a Huion pen display, and wacom kernel drivers.
This bug occurred sometime after updating gimp, but unfortunately I cannot remember which version it worked on. I tried replicating the bug with version 2.10.32-r4, and it also crashed but took slightly longer: I was able to draw a line and then it crashed when I began drawing a second one. I additionally tried downgrading x11-drivers/xf86-input-wacom to version 1.1.0, but this did not resolve the crash

I should note there is no crash when using stylus buttons or the scroll, so the bug may be in the interaction between the wacom driver and gimp.

Did you initially reboot you system after dowgrading of xf86-input-wacom driver to version 1.1.0 before the crash was reproduced again?

I did not originally, which in hindsight seems like the obvious thing to do. Now that I have rebooted with xf86-input-wacom-1.1.0 the crash appears not to be happening. I suppose the bug is with the most recent wacom drivers after all. With version 1.2.0 interestingly the bug was not happening with inkscape or any other program that I noticed, just Gimp. I will try using Gimp with the 1.1.0 version of the wacom drivers for an extended period of time and see if the crash happens at all, but as of yet I have been unable to reproduce it with 1.1.0.

Thanks for response I then close thisil issue as duplicate.

There are two proposed similar merge request mentioned in wacom upstream issue
https://github.com/linuxwacom/xf86-input-wacom/issues/307
but no one of them still is merged.

Also this issue is related to gtk2: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/merge_requests/6045
