I have a Swedish Open Office running that doesn't accept input of localized characters from the keyboard. All other keys work fine but when I press a localized key nothing happens. Localized keys work fine in other applications, including Firefox, most KDE applications and the console.

What can I do to fix this?

Sorry, you are right, was too fast in marking this as duplicate, reopening.

Try to also set LANG and see if that helps

I've managed to resolve this issue by completing the Gentoo Linux Localization Guide, reconfiguring X and running perl to troubleshoot a few things. There really are a ton of things that can go wrong but now I think they're all worked out.

I wish locale configuration was a lot simpler and that something should scream loudly when the system isn't properly configured. But that's another day and another bug. Let's close this one.
