Description Felix Schäfer 2005-04-29 03:07:55 UTC
Well, emerge tried to install xterm-201 while doing an emerge -vaDu portage, but it breaks with following error:

/bin/sh ./mkdirs.sh /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image//usr/binmkdir /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image/usrmkdir /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image/usr/bin/bin/install -c xterm /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image//usr/bin/`echo xterm| sed 's/$//'|sed 's,x,x,'|sed 's/$//'`/bin/install -c -m 755 resize /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image//usr/bin/`echo resize| sed 's/$//'|sed 's,x,x,'|sed 's/$//'`/bin/install: Aufruf von stat f
Comment 1 Felix Schäfer 2005-04-29 03:07:55 UTC
Well, emerge tried to install xterm-201 while doing an emerge -vaDu portage, but it breaks with following error:

/bin/sh ./mkdirs.sh /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image//usr/binmkdir /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image/usrmkdir /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image/usr/bin/bin/install -c xterm /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image//usr/bin/`echo xterm| sed 's/$//'|sed 's,x,x,'|sed 's/$//'`/bin/install -c -m 755 resize /var/tmp/portage/xterm-201/image//usr/bin/`echo resize| sed 's/$//'|sed 's,x,x,'|sed 's/$//'`/bin/install: Aufruf von stat für resize nicht möglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefundenmake: *** [install] Fehler 1!!! ERROR: x11-terms/xterm-201 failed.!!! Function src_install, Line 59, Exitcode 2

Which in (good? :D) english would mean that "resize" couldn't be found (tried running "LC_ALL=C emerge", but the error message stays german, sorry).

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. try to emerge xterm-201
Actual Results:
xterm-201 won't install

Expected Results:
xterm-201 should be installed

*sigh* sorry for the unformatedness of the c&ps, but a colleague assured me it was just a bugzilla-"feature" in the input boxes, and that the "CR + LF" (dunno the correcct english word for that) would appear right once posted. If anyone thinks it's too difficult to read, tell me, I'll post it anew but paying attention to the formatation...
Comment 3 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-29 04:13:18 UTC
xterm-201 is going into hard mask anyway -- it's too problematic

Felix, can you post your emerge --info output here please?

same problem w/ 200-r1 since the sync 2005-05-29 8:00 pet (marking the 201 unstable again)

Got the object files (resize.o) but no executable. So more a make / compile error than a typo in src_install(), I would assume.
Comment 10 Phil Richards 2005-04-29 08:21:09 UTC
The downgrade from 201 to 200-r1 is failing with the same error

Comment 11 Jonathan Briggs 2005-04-29 09:29:48 UTC
I have the answer to this bug. This xterm package uses a shell script called plink.sh. Inside this script it uses a variable named CMD. It just so happens that in recent version of bash, CMD is a shell builtin variable set to the current command line.

The fix is to change CMD to another name in the plink.sh script. I used C.

bash-3.0-r11 now in portage w/out preexec patch ... it was removed because it caused segfaults, not because of this bug :p

After downgrading bash and then xterm, bash-3.0-r10 seems to be a dependency required by the latest baselayout-1.11.11-r3. Masking both these and updating world solved the problem of portage keeping complaining.

What's the fix?
I have bash-3.0.-r10 installed and when I try to install xterm-200-r1, I get the "resize" error.

I did an "emerge sync" just a few seconds before I posted this comment.

Oh, there's no bash-3.0-r11 in my portage tree and thus not on the mirrors, it seems.

Created attachment 57663 [details]
ebuild using the plink patch

With this ebuild, I was able to compile xterm-200. For this, I named the
attachment #57589 [details, diff] "xterm-fix-plink.sh.patch" and put in the files directory.

Could somebody please add the ebuild from attachment 57663 [details] to portage? Or at least a different fix?

It's getting annoying to fix this every day by hand.
