If you emerge it with USE=asyncns, mcabber doesn't crash. Looks like that patch is in the 'blocking_resolver_fix' branch of loudmouth, and not in master. Yes, he just created that patch for testing purposes before he left for a 1 week vacation (this week), so there'll be progress again after his return.
